An English assessment measures current reading and writing skills听to determine if you meet the entry requirements for your program, or if you need to upgrade your English first.听No one can pass or fail the assessment - it simply helps us figure out which course is the right fit for your skill level.听
Choosing an English assessment
Camosun College offers several assessment options. Review the choices below to find the one that best suits your needs.
Option A: Assessment & Testing Centre
Choose this option if:
- You've completed English 10 and need a higher placement for your program.
- You're confident in your reading and writing skills.
- You鈥檙e comfortable completing an independent, computer-based assessment.
Note: If you also need to assess listening and speaking, see Option C.
Option B: Access Assessment
Choose this option if:
- You have not completed English 10.
- You鈥檇 benefit from individual, one-to-one support during your assessment.
Note: This assessment places up to Grade 11 level only.
Option C: English Language Development (ELD)
Choose this option if:
- English is听not听your first language.
- You need to upgrade skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Note: This test is not valid for immigration purposes.
Option D: Community Learning Partnerships (CLP)
Choose this option if:
- You prefer to complete your assessment in a one-to-one, community-based setting.
- You want to assess through one of the following partners:
- Bridges for Women Society (Downtown & Westshore)
- Island Community Mental Health
- W瘫S脕NE膯 College
- Victoria Native Friendship Centre
- Malahat Nation Community
Note: This assessment places up to Grade 11 level only.
